Translation
Pallavi
I stand quite dismayed, saddened, and emaciated. What happened to you while coming to me?
Anupallavi
Will you abandon this poor soul who is chanting your name and worshipping you? Did you doze off for a moment while rushing to come here?
Charanam
Did you get exhausted by dancing in the group that chants Sri Hari’s name a million times? Darling of Mother Anjanai, is this the time to tease and trick me? Oh, sincere servant of Lord Vishnu and handsome Anchaneya, this is the appropriate time for you to look out for and help me.

Pallavi
Oh Anchaneya, you rushed to hug the hot sun. You are so devoted and would never forget Lord Vishnu.
Anupallavi
Son of Anjanai and the immaculate one, I have enshrined you in my heart. Please have compassion and offer salvation to me.
Charanam
When sages Thumburu and Narada entered a musical contest, they could not match your chanting of Sri Rama’s name. You melted the hearts of everyone in the audience, and the sages hung their heads in shame and embarrassment. Lord Vishnu, who could not resist your divine music, stood in the audience, totally lost in your devotion and scholarship. I will follow your example Anchaneya and think only about you every minute of my life on this earth.
Author’s Note
Reference is made in this song to the classic mythological story of a veena music competition between sages Thumburu and Narada. Both exhibited virtuosity and the audience was thrilled. Vishnu had asked Hanuman to judge the contest. Hanuman took out the frets from the veenas and asked the sages to play. Both could not, whereupon Anchaneya enthralled the audience playing the fretless veenas with a bamboo sliding stick and singing the glory of Sri Hari. The sages felt ashamed of their egos and Vishnu, who was in the audience immersed in the music, lavishly praised the devotion of Anchaneya.
