சிறு தூக்கம் கலைந்ததால் விழித்தெழுந்த

Charanam

முழக்கம் செவிமடுத்த புள்ளினமோ

muzhakkam sevimaduttha puLLinamO

வழக்கம் போல் பள்ளிச் சிறுவர் குழாமென

vazhakkam pOl paLLich chiruvar kuzhAmena

அரற்றியது தனக்கெதுவும் புரியாதது போல்

aratRiyadhu thanakkedhuvum puriyAdhadhu pOl

ஆனைக் கூட்டம் ஒன்று நீரில் உருண்டது

Translation

Pallavi

On the day when a cuckoo bird started singing in ecstasy, a peacock spread its lovely feathers and danced.

Anupallavi

A lion whose nap was disturbed let out an eath shattering roar.

Charanam

The bird flock heard the loud roar.  They started screaming like a group of schoolchildren. A crowd of elephants pretended as if they had no knowledge of what was happening.  They just rolled over in the pool of water.

தூயவோர் துகில் போல் நின்றிடும் முகிலையும்

காயவே மேல் சென்ற வாயுத்திரளென்பார்

Charanam

நிறக்கலவை போல் மின்னிட மரங்கள் நின்றதோர் நாள்

வண்ணங்கள் சரியளவு நீர்த்திவலையோடு சேர்ந்ததென்பார்

vaNNangaL sariyaLavu nIrtthivalaiyOdu sErndhadhenbAr

கருமை நிறைந்திட இருளும் சுழ்ந்திட அச்சம் மேலிட

karumai niRaindhida iruLum sUzhndhida accham mElida

விதியின் சதியென்பார் இறையினை நிதம் எண்ணிடுவார்

Translation

Pallavi

There are some folks who will see snow dusting a hilltop and say that it is a natural phenomenon caused by the satisfactory level of cold climatic conditions.

Anupallavi

They will see the clouds that stay as pure as a white fine cloth spread in space. They will instantly explain that it is due to the cloud of gases that went up because of heat on the earth. 

Charanam

On a day in the fall, in the season of foliage, when trees stand with leaves in a blend of different deep colors, they will rationalize it. They will say it stems from a combination of pigments in the leaves mixed with an optimal proportion of humidity in the air. However, on a day that reminds one of doomsday, with intense darkness at night pervading the surroundings, the same folks frightened by the changes will start blaming  a scheme of fate. Unbelievably, they will start thinking about God on such days and from then on, each day.

கலகலவென இறங்கிடும் ஓடை நீரும்

சலசலவென ஓடி வாய்க்காலை நிரப்பிடும்

salasalavena Odi vAykkAlai nirappidum

சில்லென்ற நீர் உடலில் பட்டே நெற்கதிரும்

sillendRa nIr udalil pattE neRkadhirum

நில்லென்று சொல்லி காற்றிடை நர்த்தனமாடும்

nillendRu solli kAtRidai nartthanamAdum

Translation

Pallavi

As the sun starts the day with scornful laughter and spreads light, the darkness of the night will jump and vanish.

Anupallavi

Likewise, the gentle chill in the air will disappear with shame when adequate warmth arrives due to the sun’s rays. 

Charanam

The falling brook’s water that makes a characteristic noise runs through the field with a gushing sound and fills the channels. The stalk of the rice plant starts shivering with the touch of cool water. The stalk asks the water to stop and starts dancing in the breeze.
