Lord Srinivasa, I climbed all seven hills to reach you. Please remove all my past sins.
Anupallavi
I brought coins packaged in a traditional turmeric-soaked cloth, as well as my prayers to have my wishes fulfilled.
Charanam
I just heard about your predicament. I heard that you did not have enough money to marry the lady that you liked at first sight. I understood the gravity of your plight and wondered why I am holding on to this much property while you suffer. So I sold all my property to settle your loans and climbed the seven hills to reach you.

Venkateswara borrowing money from Kubera, the god of wealth, to wed Padmavathi in the Tirumala Hills, is a well-known story. In brief, based on the commitment that Venkateswara made with the lender, he must pay back the entire amount with interest before he is allowed to return to his abode, Vaikuntam. This is the reason why devotees to this day offer their wealth to the Lord in Thiruppathi.
It is also a tradition to pray to Venkateswara after a bath, and tie some coins in a turmeric soaked cloth, and deposit the money in a vault within the Tiruppathi shrine. This is typically done when a family member is in ill health, or to pray that a joyous event such as a wedding goes without obstacles. For details, see:

Pallavi
Lord Narayana, you removed all of my past and present sins and have pervaded my mind.
Anupallavi
Oh, supreme Lord of the heavens, you are the personification of wonderment. You are like my father, acting with empathy and compassion and helping me each step of the way.
Charanam
You became enamored with a fistful of flattened rice from the poor soul with tattered clothes; you transformed yourself to a half-man, half-lion form to protect the word of the young son of a fellow who constantly insulted you; you appeared as a cowherd just to steal a ball of butter. My mind softened upon hearing all these stories, and my eyes welled with tears.
Author’s Note
The charanam of this song describes three tales from Sriman Narayana’s incarnations as Narasimha and Krishna. All three episodes are detailed in the Srimad Bhagavatam. As a young boy, Krishna had a close friend named Sudama, also known as Kuchela. They received their early scriptural education together under the same teacher. During their gurukula days in Sage Sandipani’s ashram, Sudama was devoted to his divine friend.
As life progressed, their paths diverged. Sudama continued his Vedic duties as a traditional Brahmin, and many times his wife urged him to visit Krishna. Knowing that Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, was Krishna’s consort, she hoped that if Sudama explained his poverty and difficult circumstances, Krishna might provide the means for them to live comfortably.
Kuchela finally agreed to travel to Dwaraka to meet his old friend. He carried a small bundle of flattened rice wrapped in a cloth and slung it over his shoulder. Upon his arrival, Krishna embraced him warmly and reminisced about their school days. Sudama felt hesitant to offer the humble gift of flattened rice, but Krishna joyfully seized the bundle and ate it with delight. Sudama could not bring himself to ask Krishna for a favor. He returned home with only the memory of Krishna’s affection and hospitality. To his astonishment, his modest hut had transformed into a mansion, and his wife was adorned with gold jewelry, attended to by maids. Sudama was deeply moved by Krishna’s compassion and grace.

Kuchelopakyanam, Krishna’s grace
The demon Hiranyakasipu performed intensive penance while chanting the name of the creator, Lord Brahma. Brahma appeared and granted him a boon that he could not be killed by a human, a beast, or a celestial, and also not be killed during the morning or night. Armed with this boon, the demon became tyrannical, attacking the celestials and proclaiming himself to be God, insisting that no one needed to worship any other deity.
Hiranyakasipu had a son named Prahladha, who was born a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu. Prahladha constantly chanted the Lord’s name and spent every moment absorbed in thoughts of Him. Hiranyakasipu became enraged that he could not alter his son’s devotion and tried many times to kill him. One day, in a fit of fury, he drew his sword intending to kill Prahladha. He mockingly asked his son whether his Lord would come to save him. Striking a pillar in anger, he was shocked when Mahavishnu emerged from it in the form of Narasimha—half-lion and half-man. The divine being seized Hiranyakasipu, placed him on His thigh near a doorway at dusk, and tore open his heart with His sharp claws, thus ending the tyrant’s reign on earth.

A well-known story in the Bhagavatham is about the child Krishna stealing butter during his childhood in ஆயர்பாடி (shepherd’s village or town). As a toddler, he was very interested in playful acts such as eating sand, or drinking milk and curd. His mischievous acts, such as breaking pots to eat oozing butter is part of folklore. One such incident during his childhood in Gokulam with his mother Yasoda is described in Bhagavatham 10.9-8.

Pallavi
Does anyone who contemplates the grace and compassion of the Lord, and decides to sing His glory, truly need rhymes and alliterations in music?
Anupallavi
All curses will be annihilated wherever the Lord’s feet touch. Prosperity will overflow in the city where Goddess Lakshmi resides.
Charanam
Even a mere pair of sandals will rule such a blessed land. Dark clouds will gather and dissolve to bring abundant rainfall, making the earth fertile. The farmlands will yield rich harvests, and the nation will flourish. Noble elders and learned scholars will live guided by the righteous path prescribed in the scriptures, without deviating from orthodoxy.
Author’s Note
The anupallavi of the song is based on the episode of Ahalya’s sapa vimochanam (release from her curse). This event occurred when Lord Rama’s feet touched the uninhabited hermitage of Sage Gautama. Ahalya, his wife, had once been deceived by Lord Indra and thus incurred Sage Gautama’s wrath. He cursed her to become an inanimate stone, devoid of contact with any living being. Before departing, however, Sage Gautama granted her the boon that she would regain her original form when Lord Rama’s feet touched the hermitage. He also blessed her, saying she could reunite with him after worshipping Lord Rama. For details, see:
The phrase “kalaniyum arasalum” in the charaṇam refers to an episode from the Ramayana, where Bharata placed Lord Rama’s sandals on the throne and ruled the kingdom as Rama’s representative until His return from exile. It is universally believed that any place where Goddess Lakshmi resides is blessed with boundless prosperity. The author further suggests that the presence of both Rama and Sita together in any place brings an even greater abundance of prosperity.

Pallavi
He is the quintessence of the four Vedas. As little Krishna, he stole butter with playfulness. He is the source of the four-faced Lord Brahma. Worship the feet of the supreme Lord Narayana.
Anupallavi
He once incarnated as the Brahmin dwarf, Vamana, yet his glory is as vast as the sky. He is the friend and protector of the elephant Gajendra. His compassion and affection are unmatched, like that of a loving mother.
Charanam
He is the destroyer of sins and bad karma, flawless and modest. He is a terror to fear itself. He is Padmanabha, the Lord who bears a lotus upon his navel. He offers refuge even to those who have erred. He is the embodiment of both Siva and Vishnu, dwelling in the hearts of his sincere devotees. He carries Goddess Lakshmi on his chest, for she is an inseparable part of him. He is the personification of wealth and prosperity, the divine Lord Srinivasa, who bestows honor and reputation upon his devotees.

Pallavi
Lord Purushothama, you went as an emissary on behalf of the Pandavas, seeking at least five villages for them as part of the settlement with the Kauravas. Supreme Lord Krishna, you incarnated to establish righteousness in the world.
Anupallavi
The Pandavas lost all their dignity, went to the forest for thirteen years, and returned to reclaim their royalty. You went as an emissary to negotiate with Duryodhana.
Charanam
Krishna, you calmly entreated the blind king Dridharashtra’s court. The young prince Duryodhana would not tolerate it, became angry, and tried to imprison you. You revealed your true form in an imposing way to scare the naive child. Despite all this, the conversation broke down. You knew all along that the five brothers would wage a victorious war. You served as an emissary in a final attempt to prevent war and seek a peaceful resolution.
Author’s Note
This song is based on an episode from the epic Mahabharata. Krishna went as an emissary on behalf of the Pandavas to negotiate for at least five villages for the brothers after their return from dwelling in a forest for 12 years and incognito for another extra year. All of the elders including King Dridhrashtra understood the value of Krishna’s words. The wicked Duryodana, however, did not want to part with an inch of land. In addition, he deviously tried to imprison Krishna and put an end to the negotiations. Realizing that wisdom is beyond the evil mind, Krishna showed his true form, or viswaroopam. Duryodana did not care for the divinity of Krishna, believing it to be a pretense. This paved the way for the Kurukshetra war. For details, see:
Krishna’s peace negotiations fail leading to war
The last-ditch effort by Krishna to bring about a peaceful settlement was in vain. Contrary to the guidance of elders in the assembly, Duryodhana tried to imprison Krishna hoping that the Pandavas would crumble upon hearing this news. Lord Krishna laughed and revealed his divine form. Instantly, with a radiant flame, devas appeared from His body. Brahma appeared from his forehead, Rudra from his chest, Lokapalakas from his hands, and Pandavas wearing armour appeared on his side and back. The entire scene was scary for several kings and ministers who closed their eyes. Duryodhana did not budge in his decision, so Lord Krishna left the court in his chariot.
